Wow. Just . . . wow. And here I had been wondering why no one thought to use a styptic pencil on Dawn's "shallow cuts". After all, Giles did say, "The blood flows, the gates will open. The gates will close when it flows no more."
This was excellent. I especially liked that you made Giles absolutely "get" it; if Dawn had been only her sister, she probably could have let her go to save the world, but He hadn't understood until earlier tonight what Dawn meant to her: a chance at that, if only by proxy. Hope, innocence, carefreeness. She's more than that. She's me. Buffy could suffer anything as long as she knew Dawn was OK... but if she died, there would be nothing left.
