In reading S:ATF, I'm really struck by his relationship with Fred/Illyria. It's a bizarre form of protective worship but it's so very Spike that it works.
It is fascinating and intriguing, isn't it? It's been so long since we've gotten to see Spike in "Lady's Protector" mode; he was that way with Dru and then later with Dawn and Joyce, and I always enjoyed watching that. Now he's using Illyria as a shield to protect the physically weaker Fred during their stay in Hell, but I'm dying to know what Fred herself thinks about it, and how much she comprehends. After the Fall so far is giving us the impression that Fred is disoriented and "shell shocked" (pardon the pun) and is unaware that Illyria even exists!
