I did give fair warning! :-> But yes, my intention was for it to be such a bad ending that it would surprise people, thus becoming the first ever original cliche.
Here's the thing, and as a writer you'll appreciate this: The entire story was supposed to be light, whimsical, and self-mocking, so actually calling the worst ending ever "the worse ending ever" would fit right in. I truly had no intention for that last chapter to turn so dark and bloody. In addition, Richard's bittersweet crush on Tara was not supposed to be so obvious. (But who could hang around Tara without falling for her?) The whole thing was supposed to be making fun of fanfiction conventions in general, and Richard in particular -- but my subconscious apparently decided not to go along.
