certainly doesn't come from canon References to canon 'ships' are allowed. It would be impossible to tell the story in some instances without them. For example, in my WIP 'Soul Searching' much of the story is dependent on Spike's memories of loving Buffy, but that's not what's central to the plot.
From the description of your WIP, it sounds as if it fits the rules for genfic as defined by the Board Momma. Post away (a little at a time) , I'm looking forward to seeing it.
