shinodabear posted earlier, it would make the mods' lives easier if everyone could tag their posts themselves.
And so, in case not everyone knows how to use the tags, I thought I'd make areally long handy-dandy guide to tagging and the tags used in this community, which will be also be linked in the user info for future reference.
Why yes, I am an ex-librarian currently writing user's guides for a living, why do you ask? :)
Because only the mods have the ability to create new tags in this community, the easiest way to tag is to post the story first and then go to the post and press the Edit Tags button (
). Then just select the tags you want from the list, press Save changes and voila, your post has been tagged.
All fics should be tagged with the author's name and preferably they would also have at least one tag from every one of the categories listed below (except 'time frame' which is only required for fics outside the BtVS/AtS time frame).
If a tag you want to use doesn't exist yet, just nudge one of the mods and we'll add it to the list.
Length:
poetry - what Spike would write, only probably with less rude language :)
drabble - exactly 100 words
ficlet - 101-1000 words
one-shot - longer than 1000 words, but posted in one chapter
multi-chaptered - story that's posted in several parts
Genre:
action/adventure
alternative universe
angst
back-story
crossover
darkfic
dialogue only
drama
humor
missing scene
Characters:
All characters have a tag of their own. Check the correct spellings for the character names from the tag list.
There are also the following tags: ensemble, original character
Time frame:
btvs: s1
btvs: s2
btvs: s3
btvs: s4
btvs: s5
btvs: s6
btvs: s7
ats: s1
ats: s2
ats: s3
ats: s4
ats: s5
historical
pre-series
post-chosen
post-nfa
wishverse
superstarverse
normal again-verse
comic canon
You can select multiple tags, if needed. For example, for a story set between the first two seasons of Angel, you can select ats: s1, ats: s2, or both.
In addition to the general tags, all authors will have their own tags (in the format "author: author name"), as will all multi-chaptered fics (in the format "author name: story name"). The mods will create these tags when you make your first post.
The community also has the following tags for non-fic posts: mod post, community pimp, request, recommendation
Feel free to suggest new tags, for example, if there are characters who you are planning to post fic about in the future, but who don't have a tag yet. Or new genres, or totally new tag categories that might be useful. We're always open for suggestions :)
