I meant to make this post before my internet connection decided to go awol but now I'm back with some news about few changes we've made to the tagging policies a while ago.
First, to make it easier to find authors' stories, the author name tag is now in the format author: author name. For example, author: ruuger NOT ruuger. This way all the author names will be collected in one place in the tags list.
Second, because the tagging system only allows 100 entries for each tag, to avoid older stories getting 'lost', we've decided that when tagging multi-chaptered stories, only the first chapter of the story will be tagged with all tags, and the later chapters will only be tagged with the story tag.
For example, if I'm writing a multi-chaptered story called "A Story" about Faith and Riley that's post-Chosen and humorous, I will tag the first chapter
riley, faith, humor, author: ruuger, ruuger: a story, post-chosen, multi-chaptered
and all the other chapters
ruuger: a story
This way, when clicking a tag, the reader will only see the first chapters of all the stories and can then click on the story tag if they want to continue reading a specific multi-chaptered story.
Since we're on the subject of tags, something not all people know about tags is that you can track them. So if you, say, want to be notified when a certain story is updated, a certain writer posts a story or even a story about a certain character is posted in the community, you can do that by using the track function.
For example, if want to be notified (either by email or by a message in your message center) every time someone writes a story about Snyder, just go to any post, click the Track this button and select "Someone posts an entry tagged snyder to
gen_storyteller".
For more information about LJ's tracking function, see the Livejournal FAQ.
Unfortunately the tracking system only works if the tags are added when the post is made, not if they're added afterwards. This is one of the reasons why it is very important that you check the format and spelling of the tags you use from the tags list.
And don't forget to read our official tagging post if you haven't read it already.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Also, just for fun, I was looking at the tags list and noticed that we still have characters there who haven't had a single story written about them yet, so if you're feeling inspired, how about writing a little something about Amy, Anne (aka Chantarelle), Doyle, Fred, Hamilton, Holtz, Justine or Riley?
