Summary After Angel rescues Lindsey in "Underneath", he confronts Lindsey for information.

“So that’s it Angel, this is hell,” Lindsey told Angel, a smug smile on his face.

“That is what I went to that holding dimension for. There had better be more, I lost Gunn, he took your place. Manners took me for the elevator ride to hell, and told me the same thing,” Angel growled.

“Want to know something Angel. Holland Manners let you see the truth. You have been saving the humans from death from demons. That is not what this is about. It’s every soul we corrupt, every human we damn. That is what it going to tip the scales in the Senior Partners favour,” Lindsey smirked.

“You know what Lindsey? I know I cannot win, I know the odds are against me. That in the scheme of things, I am a drop in the water. If nothing I do matters, then all that matters is what I do,” Angel stated, his face hard.

“Yes and what has been happening since you took this gig Angel. Those people you saved from death, what do you think the Senior Partners wanted out of that?” Lindsey asked, a sardonic eyebrow raised.

“I saved them, that was what happened,” Angel replied.

“And that night or the next day the Senior Partners had their soul, in payment for the CEO of Wolfram & Hart saving them,” Lindsey smirked. “You saved their life, but damned their soul, which would be worse,” Lindsey moved towards the bed, and lay down, observing Angel. He placed his hands behind his head.

Angel looked at Lindsey, he knew he was right, that he was only telling the truth. It brought a bitter taste to his mouth. The fight with the Senior Partners was not about saving lives, it was saving souls. When he took the role of CEO, it seemed his every good deed only led to a more evil one.

He had lost Fred, Gunn was in a holding dimension, Wes was losing it with grief for Fred, and Lorne was drinking himself to oblivion. Hell even Spike and himself were losing it, the loss of Fred was the worst thing that could happen to them. She had been their heart and soul.

He felt the anger reach up though out his body. Holland Manners had already told him this detail, that it was the humans who would be the true instruments of the Senior Partners apocalypse. For a moment, he knew he had to make a stand, show them they couldn’t defeat him.

“You hate me Lindsey. Why should I believe you?” Angel questioned.

“Why would I lie Angel. I can see the edge of defeat in your eye, that is a sweet reward for you defeating me in my original plans,” Lindsey kicked off his boots, and crossed his legs, a self satisfied smile on his face.

“It is not defeat, Lindsey, it is determination. I will find a way to hurt the Senior Partners,” Angel turned his heel and walked out the apartment.
