Challenge: Write a fic (any length) in which a non-vampire character from AtS (or BtVS) is or becomes a vampire.
Tara Turned
University of California Sunnydale campus; 9:45 PM
"Hey!" Stacey waved her arm and broke into a trot. "Hey, you with the book bag!"
The figure ahead of her shuffled along the sidewalk, book bag clutched to her chest; head down, shoulders hunched, hair loose and lank and dangling in her face. Stacey caught up and grabbed her arm.
"You’re in my chemistry class. I need the notes from yesterday’s lecture. I can’t find mine."
Tara turned and looked up through her limp curtain of hair, a portrait of timidity and awkwardness. She opened her mouth to speak; failed; tried again.
"I buh- I buh-buh-buh…"
Stacey rolled her eyes in exasperation. "God, just spit it out! Can’t you take some speech therapy for that or something? It’s like talking to a set of wind-up chattery teeth. 'Buh, buh, buh.'" Pleased with her own wit, she giggled at Tara and kept going. "You’re, like, Elmer Fudd from the Bugs Bunny cartoons. No, wait; PORKY PIG!" Now she shrieked with laughter. "Porky Pig WITH wind-up chattery teeth! Clack-clack-clack-clack-clack!"
"Clack-clack-clack-clack-clack," Tara agreed, and yanked Stacey to her. "I can’t make ‘em stop. Just your luh-luck to meet a stuttering vampire." The staccato that had governed her mouth since childhood roared into play, and she snapped her fresh new incisors repeatedly against Stacey’s throat and began to chew.
