Summary: Buffy is dead and Dawn’s fifteenth birthday is coming up. A penniless Spike wants to get her the greatest present ever. It proves to be harder than he expected. He encounters kittens, and Clem and nosehairs and learns some valuable lessons about life.

Warnings/Notes: A Sunnydale version of a Victorian Morality Play. Inspired by Kipling’s ‘Just So’ stories and served with a side dish of Dr. Seuss. A mixture of humor, angst, and reflection upon the foibles of a vampire who wants to be a good man.

I wrote this ficlet for something - I can’t remember what - but it is too long to use as a drabble. Thought it relevant though, seeing as what is on TV at the moment here in England - and no, I don’t understand the rules. Why do they keep stopping every two minutes?

Spike’s lip curled. “Bit difficult to avoid seeing me as the sodding Slayer wants me living with you.”

“You’re not living with me, Spike! You are inhabiting three square feet of closet until we decide what to do with you. I’ve written up a whole page of rules for you to learn while I’m out.”

Spike snarled at the paper Xander thrust into his hand. “Going away somewhere far away, I hope.”

Xander shrugged on his jacket. “None of your business, Vampire. Just learn the rules or else I’ll stake you, whatever Buffy and Giles say. And pay attention to Rule Eleven. Don’t ever touch the TV.”

Seeking Answers

She feels a little over-dressed in the presence of her Guide. She can feel the heat from the fire percolating her coat, warming her through to her core, as the flames and smoke swirl and weave with the First Slayer's words.

Buffy has come for answers but so far she's had none. None that she can understand at any rate.

"Death?"

"Is your gift."

The fire is gone and the image of her mother's coffin disappearing into the freshly dug grave fills her vision. A chill that has nothing to do with the cold night air cascades down her spine.
