There are no Buffyverse prompts here yet, but you folks are going change that, right? ;)

Are you tired of all the shippy fic that pops up around Valentine's Day? Do you sometimes wish that platonic friendships would get as much attention in fandom as romantic relationships?

Then come over to the fourth annual Valentine's Day multifandom friendship fic (and art) fest where it's all platonic friendships all the time! Leave a prompt or a few, or make someone's day and fill one.

I haven't spotted any Whedonverse prompts in the meme yet, so go and prompt and then write :)

(I hope this is ok? Sorry if it's not!)

Over at [livejournal.com profile] buffyquestions our weekly Monday question is asking what your favourite G-rated oneshots in the Buffy fandom are. We've already got some good recs and would love for more people to come over and tell us their favourites!

I'm pleased to announce the creation of [livejournal.com profile] genfic_minis, in the style of such wonderful communities as [livejournal.com profile] femslash_minis, [livejournal.com profile] maleslashminis and [livejournal.com profile] hetfic_minis.

This community will be focused on writing short (500 words or more) gen pieces in the jossverse in a mini-ficathon format. If you're unfamiliar with the process, you can check out a short explanation and rules in the profile.

In the meantime, if you're interested, we'd really like it if you would Fill out the Poll to let us know what Jossverse Fandoms You'd be interested in Writing!

Hi, folks! Your mod kindly gave us permission to advertise a fun new community. Are you a fic writer for BtVS, AtS, or the comics and novelizations thereof? A beta reader? A plain old reader who is interested in the writing process behind the scenes of your favorite fics? Then please join us [livejournal.com profile] writing_buffy. It’s a ship-neutral, character-neutral community devoted to the writing process behind fan works in the BtVS and AtS corner of the Whedonverse. Het, slash, and gen writers/betas/readers are all warmly welcomed.

Regular features of the community will include:
* Open threads each week to discuss your writing (or lack thereof) with fellow creators. It’s like a support group, only much more fun!
* Occasional workshops. Interested fans will lead these occasional discussions of craft (eg, how to write a zippy action scene), characterization, or even the process behind well-known and well-loved pieces of fic.
* Community challenges. Every two to three months, members will be invited to participate in anonymous challenges where they will be asked to write short pieces using a particular writing skill (eg the piece must be in second person imperative, a gothic mood, etc.) The short fics will go up in one big, anonymous post which community members will use as a jumping-off point for discussion on the writing tool, the short fics, and anything else the exercise inspires.

If this sounds interesting, please come visit us at [livejournal.com profile] writing_buffy! (One quick side note: please don’t be intimidated by the low-tech header. Real live graphic artists will soon redesign the comm.)

Hello, I'm [livejournal.com profile] snowpuppies, moderator of [livejournal.com profile] kinda_gay_award, which is the first ever btvs/ats awards site dedicated to femmeslash and relationships between the females in the btvs/ats universe.

The Kinda Gay Awards

I'm posting to this community because, as a part of our inaugural round, we have a category for Best Platonic Fic, featuring platonic relationships between two or more women, either family or friendship. So if you know of a fic that showcases how beautiful a platonic relationship between two women can be, come right over and read the rules and then nominate it!

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] shinodabear for permission.

A quick pimp before bedtime: [livejournal.com profile] bubble_blunder has just opened a new archive called Unsung Heroines for fanfic about Buffyverse women other than Buffy and Willow.

Photobucket

I know we've got plenty of people here who write "other women" - Anya, Joyce, Fred, Kendra, Dawn and others - so go and have a look at the archive and maybe post some of your fic there.

What is [livejournal.com profile] gen_challenge?

A sister community to [livejournal.com profile] yaoi_challenge, [livejournal.com profile] het_challenge, and [livejournal.com profile] yuri_challenge, [livejournal.com profile] gen_challenge is an open fandom based com for gen fics and fanart and prompts.

How does it work?

1. Make a prompt

A prompt consists of a fandom, one or more characters, and an idea for a story or artwork. For example: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Giles, "Can't teach an old dog new tricks". You can see some examples from Round 1 here.

Anyone can leave a prompt, and prompts can be for any fandom. Leaving a prompt puts you under no obligation to participate further if you don't want to. So if you've had any plot bunnies that need a home, feel free to leave them here!

2. Claim a prompt

Prompts are then collected into a list and people choose which ones they want to use. You can pick any, as long as you don't pick your own.

3. Complete your work

Once you've got one or more prompts, you've got a deadline to create a fanfic or fanart on each prompt. If you can't finish it before the deadline, it's no problem to drop your claims.

Want to know more?

We're currently in Round 2, in the stage of leaving prompts. You can leave a prompt (or more) here.

I thought I'd use my modly priviledges and pimp here the ficathon I'm currently running since it's focused on gen:

The "Buffy Is the Hero, Damnit" ficathon

This ficathon is about Buffy, Buffy and more Buffy. It's not about who Buffy's sleeping with. It's about Buffy. The girl, the slayer, the woman, the hero. So while pairings of all kind are allowed, the focus is on the gen side of things.

Deadlines:
- Sign-ups end: September 9th
- Assignments sent: before September 16th
- Final deadline: November 11th
